    Nighttime Full-moon Winter Presi Traverse

Posting this to try to find out if it has ever been done before... On the night of March 6/7, two friends of mine completed a Nighttime, Full-moon, Winter Presi Traverse. They went up Valley Way, tagged Madison, and continued south over all the major summits, including Jackson, descending via...

    Suggested Hikes in Waterville Valley

Jeremy, are you still the trail adopter for the "front-side" trail? You made a number of huge improvements over the last few years, are you "done" at this point?

Cold weather advice from the Norwegian Armed Forces

Put another way, the "Calories" on food nutrition labels in the US are actually kilo-calories. So a 2000 "Calorie" diet is actually 2,000,000 calories (lower case c) per day. Burning 2,900,000 calories in cold weather seems right.

When does a memorial become trash in a backcountry setting?

just wondering, what is the threshold for Leave No Trace? For example, does leaving a boot-print in the mud violate this rule? How about some cookie crums on the side of the trail? What about a cat-hole? I'm not trying to be a smarta$$, just looking for some guidance. Maybe this has been...

Any thoughts on my next 4000 ?

Oh yeah, I had forgot about the Chimney... Oh well, I glad it stirred up some talk about the so-called bypass-bypass.

Any thoughts on my next 4000 ?

Techumseh is one of the easiest 400 footers. Should be fine for dogs, especially if taking the trail that leaves from near the ski area. If you do Osceola, make sure you do East Peak at the same time, its only a mile or so farther. (I assume you're doing both from the waterville valley area...

    Water Bladder Threads

Can you inspect the threads? Maybe you just need to clean them up a bit with a small file? Perhaps apply some food-grade lubrication to them?

Poconos / Delaware Water Gap info needed

We hiked Mount Tamany last year and it was lovely. Some of the overlooks bear very stong resemblence to the view down Franconia Notch. As the signs say, beware of rattlesnakes! Don't worry, we didn't see any of them. Additionally, we spoke with a person who has hiked Tamany dozens of times...

    New England Gems

+1 on Aziscohos Mtn. It's a family favorite since it has great views of Lake Umbagog where our family's camp is.

    Winter Day Hike Eating Strategies

I couldn't find 16-ounce wide-mouth Nalgenes anymore for Gorp. So I screwed a bolt-eye to the cover of a small plastic peanut-butter jar (12-ounce size). I use a carabiner to clip it to the front of my backpack straps for easy access. No need to remove pack or gloves to eat.

    What could this structure be?

It's a stand for hunting deer. Very common for hunters using a bow.

    Compass anomaly

Is there a metal clip or d-ring on your glove that may have been close to your compass when you were bushwacking, but not when you tried to reproduce the anomoly at home? Did you have a watch or other metal object on your hand?
