Hiked Red Hill on Earth Day, picture perfect day. No snow at all on the north-facing trail. Trail down low was "summer" dry, up top was soft and damp, no mud. Summit only 2990', but I think safe to say under 3000' should be pretty much snow free? Hope this helps.

These 2 guys passed us, rather I should say SMOKED us, as we were ascending to Uphill L/T. You never would have known they had just climbed 4 mountains before catching us on the trail. WOW! Another hiker whom had caught up to us as we were soaking in the views along the Opalescent remarked to us...

So, if I've processed all this info correctly, if I check the altimeter at the TH and again at the summit, I should have (roughly) the same differential at both places, right? Or am I way off? Also, does anyone have the altitudes of major ADK TH's to use as base readings? Corey's, Garden, Loj...

I too was on Hunter yesterday, but saw no pups. :( Up and down via Becker Hollow Trail, saw only 4 people both ways, heard nothing but birds. Sorry. Best of luck in your search.

<sucker>I voted "heavy weight" since when we go overnighting I tend to carry all the heavies (canister/food,stove,tent,sleeping bag,filter,cooking utes) and my wife carries the "trinkets" (her sleeping bag,clothes,camera,snacks,binocs,1stAid). Am I getting hosed? </sucker>

Kinda sick, but kinda funny... Came upon a pile of bear cr*p right in the middle of the trail, about a mile in from the Upper Works TH, with a Baby Ruth wrapper embedded in it. Least the bear had good taste in confectionaries :)

I caught one on PBS documenting the AT, looked pretty cool! Then saw it for sale in a local EMS a few months ago but don't remember the name. :mad: Anyone?
