  • Thanks for the compliment on Tuck's coloring. It's officially called "brindle" (I call it "chocolate-fudge ripple") and is typical of his breed, Plott Hound. He's a mutt, actually, but mostly Plott. He gets quite a few compliments on his coloring, though my girlfriend's mother called Tuckerman "the ugliest dog in the world." But her dog is a very fat corgi she spoils with food from Long John Silver, so what does she know?

Meanwhile, very, very cool equipment room/office you've got. Majorly jealous!

    Best,
    /Steve
    hey there..thanks for the greenie
I sure enjoy the "group" at cman...good times good laffs
Thank you, Paradox, for the green square. See you at Rocket21's shin-dig at the Ashland Common Man on Friday?
Thanks for the kind words. The truth is, I've fallen in love with all the dogs that have been posted on that thread.
sounds like a cool vt trip you did. i have been wanting to get down there to hike the breadloaf area, pretty nice down there!!
Yep, I's a upstate boy through and through.

The ACD was up on the west side of the lake, yes? I believe it was around that time, maybe a year or two earlier, that my mother worked there -- Terry Wolff (or might have gone back to her maiden name by then, Terry Walicka). Ring any bellz...?
I was going to post a picture of Zippy sleeping on my head during our Carters traverse last winter, but it would have looked like a photo negative of the proverbial polar bear in a snowstorm pic !
That itinerary would be a fun challenge as extreme dayhikes. I am not sure how light you travel with an overnight pack, but I am sure it can be done...but I'm not sure how much of the scenery you'd notice!!! Have a great time!
Late Night Thoughts is the book to get. It is a book of essays on all kinds of topics, but with a science/medical twist. The title essay is about him feeling that humanity is capable of unspeakable cruelty and destruction, and wondering if there is hope for "us". He uses Mahler's 9th as a metaphor for Humanity, and sees a glimmer of hope for us in the final movement. Deep Thoughts.....the other essay I think of often is one on Altruism.
I dig the signature! Lewis Thomas is da man!
I had to read " Late Night Thoughts on Listening to Mahler's 9th Symphony" in 11th grade for English. I go back to it from time to time. One of my favorite books of all time! I just read " The Youngest Science" which I also thoroughly enjoyed.
Bring the hand saw. Do either of you have a pair of loppers?
I'll bring loppers and a fire rake, and a hazel hoe.
Well thank you so much for the kind thoughts. think I did not have a major tear, as I am doing much better. I have successfully been running/trail running and took a small mountain hike Saturday, all with minimal pain. I am quite grateful that my situation appears optimistic. If it does not continue to progress, I will not hesitate for surgery.

    Happy trails.
    Marty
