If I were sledding down a trail, on a sled (not butt sledding), and I hit a tree or rock and broke my leg, arm, neck, or whatever, and had to be rescued, would I be deemed reckless? I'm curious as to what others think.
Edit: It's Bald Peak off of the Mt Kinsman Tr. I was thinking of possibly whacking down from there, due west, to the town road east of NH116 then walking back to the Reel Brook TH to complete a loop. Does anyone have any info on what I might find? I wondering about the thickness of the woods...
As I slowly fill in The Grid, I like to make littlle "mini grids" along the way, either for my winter list or for Marlie's next round of 4Ks. I have also taken on the task of redlining which IMO is more exciting than peak bagging since it guarantees seeing something new. This hike started out...
Up Webster - Jackson, Webster Cliff Tr to Pierce, back to Mizpah Hut, down Mt Clinton Tr, bushwhacked north along the east bank of Dry River, up Mt Eisenhower Tr and Dry River Cutoff to Mt Clinton Tr, then down Mizpah Cutoff, Crawford Path & Saco Lake Tr.
The Mt Clinton Tr is difficult to...
A few weeks old but I thought this was still worth sharing.
Always looking for something to spice things up I decided to hike Cannon via the Kinsman Ridge Tr from the tram parking lot but then check out the Cannon - Mittersill (or Mittersill - Cannon) Tr. There were no signs just yellow blazes...
Having the week off means that I can hike durring a weekday rather than the weekend. That means less traffic for the drive and less traffic on the trails. I decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather and head up to Mt Cabot. I had wanted to arrive at the trail head by 5 am to be on...
Last Wednesday I hiked Tom, Field, and Willey. Then descended along the Willey Range and Kendron Flume Tr and walked the RR tracks back to Crawford Depot.

I am looking for any first hand info about the 1 mile stretch below the dam. I have read a couple descriptions ranging from water possibly rising up to 6 feet with class III rapids to being to shallow and rocky to being swift and easy if the dam is releasing water. The problem seems to be some...
I know, I know, another wek old report.
Last Monday Marlie and I headed out for Mt Whiteface and get some redlining done along the way. Unfortunately my alternator on my truck had started acting up and when the guages on my dash all went flat I figured I should pull over. So, at 6:30...
All winter I had big hopes of climbing at least one if not all of the 5k Presis but the stars never aligned for me and I was shut out once again. Oh well, there is always next year, or April. I finally got a decent forecast although it seemed to be shifting in the wrong direction as time went...
I found one yesterday near the spring loop, without the stuff sack and wrapped around a tree at the bottom of a snow field. I carried the bulky frozen mass out so it could possibly be returned to it's owner.
Usually I like to post a TR after each trip but "life" seems to be eating up alot of time recently so here is a quick recap and some photos for those of you that have time to browse.
Mt Carrigain 3-1-14
I hiked this one with Marlie and maddmattd on a chilly morning that turned into a nice day...
This was from a week ago but I figured I'd post anyway. This was the coldest hike Marlie has done so far and she handled it well. ~5 degrees and ~20 mph wind on the summits although the wind was much less on our return over Liberty. We just had to keep moving. We were first up and first...
With the nice weather last Saturday and reading a couple recent reportsI figured it would be a good day to visit Mt Isolation. I had never used the Engine Hill bushwhack and was looking forward to it after seeing the pictures from madmattd and company's hike in December.
It would be just me...
I wasn't going to put up "another Mt Tecumseh" TR but figured I would just to share the pics with anyone that is interested.
Friday night an old friend decided to join me for Saturday's hike as he had the day off and wanted to "accomplish" something in the morning. He had hiked Adams, Owl's...
Trails: Greeley Pond Tr, Mt Osceola Tr
Special Equipment: Snowshoes, some may prefer crampons for the steep section up East Osceola.
Comments: Trails were well packed but lots of butt sledding has wiped alot of snow off of the steeper section. Trail toward Greeley Pond was packed as well...
Just a quick trip up Garfield this past Saturday with Marlie via Gale River Loop Rd, Garfield Tr, and Garfield Ridge Tr. No point in reporting much on the trail conditions as they have most likely changed already. We bypassed the crossing of Thompson Brook by using the snowmobile bridge since...
Last Sunday I was really hoping to climb Mt Jefferson and possibly Washington but a less that desirable forecast (windchills well below 0) made me change my mind Saturday night. I wasn't so worried about myself as I was Marlie. She can only layer up so much. I decided that the Tripyramids...
In the early 2000s after finishing the NH4Ks, I kept hiking by chipping away at the big list that I had at home in my "hiking" folder. This was the NE100 list that was incuded with the half dozen pages that the Four Thousand Footer Committee would mail to you. I didn't know of any internet...
From Hike-NH, krpayer posted:
So there I was, in the middle of the woods on the slopes of West Scar Ridge when I look down and spot a camera case on the ground. Stuck it in my pack, brought it home. The photos on the memory card are dated from July/August 2011 and generally consist of NEHH...
