From Pinkham to Tuckerman floor, thin slushy snows (it was a warm morning). Bare-bootable but I put on microspike for traction.
The Sluice up to the top of the ravine: nice soft snow, easy to kick in. Great climbing conditions. Crampons will be a good idea .
Washington to Madison Hut were mixture of hard ice, soft snow and crusty snow, no snowshoes needed.
Bare-bootable all the way on Valley Way, few icy spots at lower section but can easily walk around them.
I kept my crampon on all the way from Lunch Rock till half way down Valley Way and changed into microspike.
Kim's report.
