Trail conditions: Both trails in very good shape. Airline had patches of mud and tolerable bugs. Summit of Adams was crawling with bugs -- it was a step on the rock and run kind of deal. Valley Way was very muddy and the 1.5 miles between Madison Spring Hut and the Scar Trail was loaded with blackflies. You will definitely want bug protection if you want to stop moving at all.
Special equipment: All I wanted for my trip down Valley Way was my head net, which I unfortunately left at home. Otherwise DEET and sunscreen.
Other comments: I had hiked just the very top and bottom of the Airline Trail in the past, so I wanted to redline it on this trip... had hoped to hike Madison too but time (& energy) did not permit it for me this time. Wonderful day to be above treeline ... very hot and a little hazy but the very were the best I've had on Adams so I'm not complaining at all.
