Left early today (from southeastern Mass) for a quick hike up Hale.
Was a beautiful day for it. Arrived at Hale Brook Trail head at 8am and reached summit by 1030. Only ran into 4 other people on the hike, so the trail was still fairly quiet.
Black flies have made their yearly awakening in full force. I was bombarded every time I stopped for more than two seconds.
The trail was fairly clean save for a couple fallen trees, one in particular that stretched out directly on the trail for about 5 feet. Not to bothersome as some previous hikers had made a makeshift "path" over its trunk.
For the first time (for me) this season the trail was almost completely void of snow and ice, which was a nice change ;-) 80 degree temps finally doing their magic.
Overall was a nice little hike on a beautiful day.
