Trails: Baldface Circle Trail loop over both South and North Baldface.

Conditions: Up to South Baldface clear of snow, and mostly dry. Ridge between the two summits had some patches of snow but easy to navigate through. A few bigger patches of snow on the descent from North Baldface but again easy to navigate. Stream crossings near bottom of trail upon descending from North Baldface easy to rock hop.

Comments: Our first hike of 2008, and what a day! Beautiful blue skies and nice temps. The blackflies were definitely out, and took a few chunks out of Snowman's legs down low on the trail and near the parking lot. Once we got up high, with the wind, the bugs weren't of much issue. Not quite as many wildflowers as expected, but did see some nice painted trillium, wild oats and goldthread. Hobblebush was blooming, and was attempting to take over the trail down below treeline on the descent from North Baldface. We had done this hike approx. 8 years ago, and were surprised at how rugged it was. Great views for the effort, though! You can view photos here .
