4/27/12: Hiked in Ethan Pond trail - camped about 5.5 miles in. Trail free of snow - some mud. Snow and cold first night. 4/28/12 Second day up AZ to Mount Tom, then Field and Willy. Bluebird day.
Contrary to what was told to us by the clerk at front desk of the AMC Taj Mahal in Crawford Notch, there are sections of 1' to 2' monorails with ice between Tom and Willey. South side of Willey has areas with a lot of ice. Difficult to navigate without micro-spikes. Traction is high recommended for this area. Below about 3000' all snow/ice is gone - some mud.
