Its that time of year again. I copied the following from a GMC e-mail. Please note their wording is that the mud season closure is not optional on state lands. Of course many of the Long Trails low elevation trails are at the end of dirt roads so effectively getting to them make them unusuable
Each spring we remind hikers and trip leaders that hiking trails on State Forest land are closed from April 15 until Memorial Day weekend. Hikers are urged to stay off all wet trails during this time. Avoid high elevation spruce-fir forest trails and plan spring hikes on lower elevation trails on forested hardwood slopes with southern exposures.
