Yesterday was National Trails Day and I headed out to the 17.5 mile Loyalsock Link Loop (PA), one of my favorite hikes. This is the perfect overnight or weekend backpacking trip, or long dayhike. It has it all- views, big rocks, waterfalls, streams, swimming holes, a pond, and great campsites. What I really love about this hike are the extensive hemlock forests with moss and ground pine. The woodland hiking is beautiful.

Beautiful! This is the type of gem I look for when on a business trip or on a cross-country trip where I have a few hours to spare. OK, that's not 17.5 miles worth, but enough for a couple miles to a highlight.

Worlds End State Park is well worth the visit and has many shorter trails. Also be sure to see Ricketts Glen State Park with its 22 waterfalls and old growth forests.
