Madison via Valley Way, Osgood Trail
Date 3/10/08
Valley Way in excellent hard pack condition with powder ranging from a trace at the bottom to 4-6" up high. Very nicely broken out by a group of five ahead of me. Traction needed.
Osgood Trail to the summit was icy and frozen granular. Crampons essential.
Summit and ridge were in the clouds with a strong wind (25 mph +). Wimped out on going to Adams after a quarter mile on Gulfside because of doubts about visibility, especially on return. Winter number 44 for me.
(Edit - Oops. The trail signs were unreadable due to rime ice and I mixed up Watson and Osgood.)
