Monadnock via Parker, Old Toll Road, White Arrow, Pumpelly, Cascade Link, White Dot.

Date of Hike: Sunday, April 5, 2009

Trail Conditions: Running water, snow (not much), mud, ice

Special Equipment Required: Light traction for the White Arrow

Comments:

Parker Trail- took Parker from Park HQ to Toll Road. The trail had some branch litter remaining from the cleanup operation. No snow or ice. No significant mud or water.

White Arrow- Ice increasing as the trail got steeper. We wore light traction. Clear above treeline.

Pumpelly to Cascade Link - Some snow and ice remaining in areas. Nothing significant.

Cascade link to White Dot. Wet rock. Very little ice. Running water. Lot's of branch litter from the cleanup operations. We passed a crew using a chainsaw to clear dead trees along the trail.

White Dot to Park HQ- well...... it's the white dot. :)

Fun day to be out in the mountains. We had views of the Boston skyline. Cascade Link took the prize for most storm damage of the trails we took. Crews have been working for months to open the trails and it shows. Incredible number of trees have been removed. Birchtoff and Pumpelly (part below Cascade Link) are still closed. Most other trails on the mountain were open.
