Mt Avalon/Field/Willey/Tom via Avalon/Willey Ridge/A-Z/Tom Spur
Date of Hike: Saturday, April 25, 2009
Trail Conditions: Rotting snow and monorails
Special Equipment Required: morning microspikes, snowshoe afternoon
Comments:
The temps warmed up quickly during the day and the snow was very soft. Monorails were failing under my weight and any steps off trail were rewarded by a knee deep posthole. Monorail very narrow in spots. Trail between Field and Willey was hard to follow. I wandered off trail just before Willey where tracks went in all directions. Gray Jays were out in force on Mt Field. The first 2 water crossings were fine in the morning but by the trip back the water had risen quite a bit. The rocks I had stepped on were now under water. Oh well, my boots were wet by now from all the melting snow.
Great day out in the blue sky and warm temps.
