06-02-2011 A quick afternoon hike up and back on Hale Brook to try out some new gear.
Trail Conditions: Mostly dry, but a little mud due to rains. A few small downs, crossings small and easy. Cold rain, sleet and windy at the top today. Saw about 4 piles of moose droppings on the trail as a foreshadow (see comments).
Special Equipment Required: Simple rain gear and fleece. Hat and gloves for the summit, prob at least low 40's plus wind chill today. No bugs out, likely hiding from the chill.
Comments: Moose scat was a reminder to keep your eyes peeled on the roads home. Lady in SUV ahead of me swerved and rolled her car on 93S (mi mk 70.6). I missed big Mr. Moose as he stood staring in the passing lane.
Helped her out of the car and called 911, no injuries thankfully.
