Solo hike. I needed Monroe to catch up with my NE115 hiking goal companion,"Stone", who did that mt in 2004. Trail in beautiful condition. I even met a hiker that did the whole trail bare footed. I personally couldn't do that, I needed my hiking boots.
Found blue markers on open face rock fading and hard to find in places.
Definetly recommended all to take the side trail to see the gorge. It was breathtakingly beautiful.
Fog on top made it difficult seeing the cairns on the Monroe Loop trail. So glad they have those cairns ,as the trail is made up of huge boulders and every way looks the same.
The Ammonoosuc is a very scenic trail with lots of lovely waterfalls and pools. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
