Here is a cheaper version if your into hammocks. I do realize that the O.P. stated no interest in open tarps.
I have the version without the bug screen and it is very comfortable!
You need something to keep the mosquito netting up off your skin. It looks like that hammock simply lets the netting lie on your body.

The Speer http://www.speerhammocks.com/ and Hennessy http://www.hennessyhammock.com/ hammocks both have a longitudinal line to support the netting. (I bought a Hennessy, returned it, and bought a Speer. The Speer is a more versatile design, IMO.)

Both Speer and Hennessy hammocks work well for camping. They weigh less than a tent and are very comfortable.

I believe the top lines are supporting the netting as the bottom lines support the person. Do you mean the sides of the netting might lie against the side of your face ?

You may be correct. I was interpreting the picture as showing two main support lines at each end and a flat net over top.

Whichever interpretation is correct, it still needs a fly to be a practical shelter.
