Trail Conditions The road was rock solid packed snow in the early morning when it was below freezing. Bare boots here were fine. The marked trail soon became soft packed, as the temps rose. We chose not to add to the multitude of deep postholes already present, and donned our snowshoes. We did go all the way to Times Square, hoping to find a broken path to Santanoni, since the New Old Path appeared to have just a few deep boot tracks, nothing more. After poking around at Times Square and convincing ourselves that there really wasn't a broken path to Santa, we just went back and did Panther. No icy rocks today, all snow. On the way down, the snow got softer and mushier and stickier by the minute, so kept the snowshoes on all the way to the parking lot, which was deep mud in places. Watch wear you aim your car.

Comment The path heading from Times Square to Couch was well broken, as far as we could see - which wasn't very far - so who knows.
