Funny thing, that little box! My first hike with my buddies was up Davis Path back in 1971 and we stayed at Resolution that night. The only other person was a young lady who was out doing a solo thing and we had a very pleasant evening just chatting. The next morning after breakfast (and this is critical to the story) of oatmeal and coffee, it soon became necessary to go visit the little wooden box. We called it the "Out" because there was no house around it and with my guide book in hand I went off for some privacy.
Not two minutes later, my new friend from the shelter strolled along and decided that that was a good time for a chat and sat down to discuss the news of the day. Talk about being nailed to the spot! Mind you I was all of 14 years old! The first thing she asked me was "Whatcha' doin'?" I thought the answer was pretty obvious!
After a while my buddies came looking for me and when they showed up they joined right in (can't you just feel the love?) After a fashion she got tired of the chit-chat and headed back to the shelter and I was able to escape. That was 36 years ago and it is etched upon my mind forever.
The last time I saw one of those guys was at a high school reunion and he asked me if I rememberd the "Out" Thanks alot, Bud
Anyway It was pretty rickety back then too.
