Trail Conditions: Deep, soft, and heavy snow. The warm weather has really softened the packed tracks and made for heavy work. And the unpacked open woods are just as you'd expect: soft and deep. There were many stream crossings over the Neversink and tributaries, but the ice was still quite thick allowing easy traverse.

Special Equipment Required: Showshoes! Also crampons for the icy cliffs on the slopes of Slide Mtn. Plenty of water for the warm conditions.

Comments: An epic journey for Tom and I. A great day to be in the woods, but this long trip took us longer than we anticipated and it really kicked our butts. No previous tracks were visible on the East face trail up Slide Mtn and the snow drifting was impressive, making it difficult to find and follow the trail at times.

Nice work to the crews that worked on the new(ish) bridges of the Deer Shanty and Neversink.
