I am interested in picking up a pair shoeshoes. I would not expect to use them that often. I only weigh 150 so I think I can get away with 25 inch as oppose to 30. REI has a sale on the tubbs 2004 adventure series. All my reading suggests that these are best used for recreation. Do you think these would be sufficient for some winter hiking in the whites or am I kidding myself?

i have a pair of msr evo ascents that i absolutely love. they bite incredibly well to the point i often keep them on in trail sections where i would want to use crampons and feel totally comfortable. very good on steep ascents and descents. they work well with anything from hiking boots to plastics. some people don't like the plastic shoes, but these have treated me very well. they are also have tails that can be added for deep powder or large packs.
