I spent time atoning for what sins I can still commit at my age by getting out of my bed high above the Las Vegas Strip every morning at 4:03 and driving an hour up to Valley of Fire to get there by sunrise. Of the five full days we had out there I spent a total of 20 hours in the park exploring away from the roadside stops for most of the time. It is an amazing place full of wild colors, bizarrre rock formations and beautiful landscapes. Here's a sampling.

Elephant Rock - Perched on a hillside directly above the road is a bizarrre set of rocks that are amazingly still standing.
Atlatl Rock - After a climb up 84 stairs to a platform you see this set of petroglyphs. You can only wonder about the effort to put them in that place.
Landscape near White Dome Canyon - The slot canyon runs left to right between the near and far buttresses on the right.
Trail, White Dome Canyon - The end of the trail as you exit the west end of the canyon.
Pink Canyon - An absolutely gorgeous little canyon just off the roadway but not advertised. The best light is very early in the morning.
Rock Detail, Pink Canyon - The pink rock is breath taking!
Crazy Hill - The colors are crazy!
Crazy Hill, Summit View - Looking north at the awesome landscape.
Painted Rock - You can jump up onto this colorful mound right out of your car.
Windstone Arch - Hard to find because the outside does not look anything like the inside of this small cave. There's room enough for two people and the the rock is thin, fragile and bizarre!
Fire Wave - Awesome!
