Trail Conditions: The Signal Ridge Trail was well broken out by several groups going to Carrigain. The Carrigain Notch Trail was not broken out. It doesn’t look like it has had much use this winter.

The first stream crossing on the Signal Ridge Trail was easy and did not require the usual bushwhack. The stream crossing on the Carrigan Notch trail was a little dicey and required care.

The snow did not see enough rain or warm temperatures over the last few days to consolidate or develop a thick crust. Snow shoes punched through as you put weight on them. Snowshoe penetration was about 8 inches down low and as much as 24 inches at higher elevations.

Special Equipment Required: Snowshoes for the entire route.

Comments: I did not begin at the bushwhack at the “large rock” but began about ¼ mile before the rock; at the toe of the ridge running up Vose Spur. Going into the woods earlier avoids the thick spruce and blowdown encountered when beginning at the usual location and provides a more gradual ascent.
