Winter access route to d'Urban. On to Kent and almost Rump.

Fran and I returned to Chartierville, Quebec to continue our search for a shorter winter access route to the border swath in the area of Boundary Pond. We eventually found a rather wide dirt road leading to the border swath at a point just north of Boundary Pond. The dirt road is shown as a dashed line on the Canadian side on some topo maps. It meets head on with a very overgrown road which is also shown as a dashed line on the US side just north of the pond. (We estimate the winter travel to be approx 2.5 miles from the parked car to the swath.) Once on the swath , we returned to d'Urban to search for the elusive summit jar. It was not to be found again. It appears that some swath clearing work was done last year since dead trees and slash litter the edges on the swath in the apparent summit area. We even searched the slash on the Canadian side for signs of the jar.
The next day we hiked Kent using info from trip reports on this web site. There is some logging going on at the end of the logging goad on the N side of Kent. Their efforts have opened up the woods several hundred feet up the mountain. The rest of the hike was through mostly open woods with some interesting fern fields in the summit area. Contrary to d'Urban, there is a summit jar on Kent. I guess the canister bandito hasn't made it up there yet.
After Kent we headed over to Rump. We walked the logging road all the way to the point where it becomes grassy and wet. At this point, we had a bite to eat, admired the views to the North, decided to soak up the afternoon suns rays and promptly lost our desire to summit.
