Would an AI article about lost hikers be better than this one that claims to be written by a real person?

This writer has must be paid by the word as accuracy does not appear to be part of the compensation plan.

The rescue was in Cumberland County, Having grown up in that part of Maine, I never heard it referred to as the Cumberland Valley. Even the town of Cumberland Maine about 20 miles east doesnt have a Cumberland Valley.

The rescue was in Steep Falls In a different county than the referenced Augusta (Kennebec county) about 60 miles away so the snow coverage aspect in Augusta is not very relevant to Steep Falls.

With respect to the lost hikers, they must have been rare folks to not have a cell phone amongst the group as Cumberland County has quite good cell coverage.
