Good treadway, well-blazed, portions recently brushed out. Despite recent rain, and some brief rain in early afternoon, the AT provided good footing from Grafton Notch to top of Old Speck, then to Speck Pond Shelter and around Speck Pond over Mahoosuc Arm, returning to Grafton Notch via AT.
Black Fly repellent useful when out of the wind. Keep a sharp eye on your food at the top of Old Speck - there are some champion moochers among the resident Grey Jays.
Saw an Outward Bound group, two overnight hikers, the Speck Pond Caretaker working on trail, a youth camp group headed for an overnight, three dayhikers.
