    Garden and HaBaSa loop

It's been a few years since I've parked at the Garden, but has it gotten worse? I don't recall ever having had issues in the past. Same goes for the St Hubert parking. Good to know about being able to park on the 73. Thanks. We're leaning towards doing Gothics.

    Garden and HaBaSa loop

Thanks for the suggestions. Although I'd really love to hike up Haystack, I think we'll bypass it. I was hoping to camp at JBL, making the HaBaSa loop a tad shorter but my friend prefers doing a day hike. If we have to shuttle to/from Marcy field, it'll just be too long a day and we could...

    Garden and HaBaSa loop

Really, the Garden parking will be that busy even with an early start? Better have a backup plan. Maybe Gothics from St Hubert. Still no issue entering the private Ausable Club road? It's been a few years since I started at that trailhead. I was really hoping to hike to Haystack as I've never...

    Garden and HaBaSa loop

How early is safe to get a parking spot on a Saturday morning at The Garden in Keene Valley, say last weekend in September? Around what time might it start getting full? Planning on a Haystack-Basin-Saddleback day hike loop weather permitting and counting on anywhere from 10-12 hours. Sound...

    Suggestions for hike next weekend

Thanks for all the info. The entire Baldface Circle trail sounds a bit long, although it sounds like an amazing hike. Might consider the shorter loop. Lonesome Lake loop is definitely a good one as we did that one a few years ago.

    Suggestions for hike next weekend

Hi. I've done a lot of hiking in the Whites over the years but never this late in the year. My friend (60's) and I (50's) are looking for a scenic loop hike (5-7 hours) next weekend, assuming weather is ok. Don't know if there's snow/ice at the higher elevations but going up high is not a...

    Moat traverse

What's tricky about the Red Ridge Trail? Is it not well marked or just rough?

    Moat traverse

Hi. A friend of mine and I are considering doing the traverse of the Moats next week. Is starting south or north the better/easier option? Since he's older and not in the best of shape, I'd like to take as short a trail as possible. Can one leave their car atop Cathedral Ledge (CL) for this...

    Mt Hunger, VT

Hunger Thanks for your responses, guys. Very helpful info. I'm really looking forward to it. And to a visit to the Alchemist afterwards :)

    Mt Hunger, VT

Hi. My friend and I are planning a climb up Mt Hunger towards the end of December, 2009, from the west side. We've never climbed this peak. We're planning to bring snowshoes. Anyone familiar with this peak in winter? Is the road on the west side plowed? If not, what's the east side like...

    Crawford Notch to Mt Washington?

Hi all. Approximately how long would it take to hike from Crawford Notch to Mt Washington via the Crawford Path? Consider us intermediate. Plan would be to leave car at Pinkham Notch, take shuttle to Crawford Notch, hike to Mt Washington, then down to Pinkham Notch. Mid-June. Is it then about...

    Huntington Ravine mid-June?

Huntington Thanks for the replies. When I mentioned permit, I meant the passes that are now required in the National Forest that are required at all trailheads. I just wonder if there's a meter where you can pay at Pinkham Notch since we will arrive late the night before and plan on starting...

    Huntington Ravine mid-June?

Hi, A friend and I are planning to hike up Huntington Ravine from Pinkham Notch mid-June. We've hiked in the Whites before, including Mt Washington. We've been told by a couple of people to do something else as it's pretty scary and difficult in a few spots - and these guys are in good shape...

    Stabilicers?

Hi all. I'm relatively new to mountain hiking in winter (not other seasons). I climbed Algonquin in the ADKs several winters ago with snowshoes and they did the trick as there was lots of snow then. I'm considering going to the ADK high peaks next weekend and, although I think there isn't much...

    Dix or Nippletop in ADKs

Nippletop it is Thanks for all the feedback, folks. I think we've decided to hike to Nippletop via Dial and loop back via the Gill Brook Trail. We'll consider Dix next hike out. Can't wait!
