Angel Falls in Maine
Angels Falls off Route 17 in western Maine is one of my favorites--hard to get to the trailhead in winter without skiis or a snow machine but it is worth the work to get there.http://www.newenglandwaterfalls.com/waterfall.php?name=Angel%20Falls
Cumberland Plateau
There are some nice hikes and parks on the Cumberland Plateau in Tennessee--nicer, cheaper and probably less crowded than Mammoth Cave but still a drive from Monticello.
I was hiking today on the Liberty Trail and met a family at the cabin with a Jack Russell Terrier named Jack. When I saw them again in the parking lot at the end of the hike Jack was missing. Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone hiking in the area to keep your eyes open for a cute little...
I descended Dudley a few years ago and thought it was really difficult.
I am usually kind of slow and cautious going down any of the trails on Katahdin--but Dudley was definitely the most frightening descent for me. I would go up it again but not down.
Could be the Bemis Mountain/Elephant Mountain/Mooselookmeguntic area
It might be the Mooselookmeguntic area of Maine where Elephant Mountain is located. There was an article in the Sun Journal about hunting for Big Foot in the area and one time while doing research on the Bemis Track (which...
What the definition of summon is
My guess is that in practice this relates to command lines of authority for local law enforcement and fire and rescue, border patrol, etc, since sometimes there can be issues with who can do what, and this would let the commissioner "summon" anyone, including...
Maine law
I could not find a statute that requires a person to render aid under Maine law except in the case of a firearm accident (where the person responsible for the wound is required to render aid) or in the already mentioned motor vehicle statute.
The Fall 2007 Maine Bar Journal had a...
Katahdin Lake
There is a 3 mile hike to Katahdin Lake off the Roaring Brook road just about 1 mile shy of the campground. The lake is beautiful, a new acquisition by the park. You can make arrangements when you enter the park to rent one of the canoes locked up by the lake or you can just...
The hike
After reading the posts prior to leaving, I thought that I would do the Bucklin Trail.
My reason for heading to Killington was that my 16 year old and I were meeting my older son (23) who just got married in June and moved to Pennsylvania but was at Killington mountain biking for...
Thanks for the help
Thanks for all the good advice. I think I'll just do Killington via the Bucklin this time and save Pico for when Charlie can join me.
I appreciate the input, thanks again.
Beth
I'm planning to climb Killington tomorrow and am having trouble finding resources on the web with information on the trails. Does anyone have information or a web link to hiking info on the area?
Thanks
Beth
My son has several patches from the AMC huts and various other places that he has hiked and would like me to sew them on his back pack. Does anyone have any other suggestions for attaching them? Or, alternatively, does anyone have another suggestion for displaying them?
Thanks!
Beth
We climbed Cannon
Thanks so much for all the advice, I was all set to go up Liberty Springs with the guys. Our plan was to meet at the Cannon Tram parking lot at 9:30 and then head down to the trailhead, but they got there late and it was raining so we decided to do Cannon instead since we...
I'm looking for advice from experienced winter hikers.
My son who is a senior at WPI is at Cannon Mtn skiing for a long weekend before classes start with his fraternity brothers. He, and a few of his friends, want me to come over from Maine on Saturday (1/13) and hike with them and left the...
