    Rolling Ankles/feet

I have this same issue. I'm fairly tall and lanky - but also pretty coordinated - so I have to blame something. Do what I do: Hike a lot so you roll your ankle(s) all the time and build up a tolerance. I'm really only half joking.

    Visitor count on Mt Washington?

LOL. Try being the pariah known as a thru-hiker there! Myself and a couple others were literally quarantined to a far corner to enjoy some crappy hot chocolate! We thought about grunting like Bigfoot and scaring their kids, but decided against it. BTW, by sheer numbers alone you'd expect...

    Environmentally Friendly Mosquito Repellent Coming?

Interesting stuff. I get about 3 mosquito bites per year, and the bite disappears within hours. This, of course, drive my wife insane because they just love her - and her bites last for days. (And I'm outside on the order of 5:1 over her.) I DO often hike with a banana and then put the peel...

    I hiked with an umbrella...proudly

During my AT thru-hike, I met an older woman who hiked with an umbrella. It rained for about 2 weeks straight from the GA-NC border northward and I met her towards the end of those soggy two weeks. She seemed quite proud of herself and liked to laugh at US wet folks while we secretly...

    What's in your hike plan

Great thread. Maybe I'll print this out and leave THIS on the counter next time I go hiking. 1. I am a hyper-planner, so she knows I know where I'm going and how long it will generally take. So I can't really get away with, "Eh, I'm just going somewhere." She'd think I was on drugs or...

    Foliage In October

Not to bum you out, but the wet year this year will probably dampen the foliage a bit. Typically drier weather through the summer usually results in brighter foliage for some reason... Or so I've read. Otherwise, it's pretty much peak time the 1st-2nd week in Oct in the ADK's.

    12,000 Ossippee acres closed

I'm trying my hardest to bite my tongue here. A very small minority who feel that map is public domain somehow are doing a great job of making the entire hiking community look like a bunch of spoiled self-righteous pricks. Who benefits from that? All you're doing is providing an excellent...

    12,000 Ossippee acres closed

Long time VFTT lurker. Sadly, it took this thread to get me out of my shell. This is unacceptable. I read the map creator's explanation which boils down to a cheeky, "Hey man, I just made the map, I'm not telling anyone to trespass." While this idea could be morphed into any number of...
