    Nepal in April

Gulf Air used to be good. They have recently discontinued flights from Bahrain to Kathmandu. In addition, they cancelled our flights and didn't notify us. This happened twice, in 2011 and again this year. We're flying Qatar from London to Doha to Kathmandu. Qatar is rated five star. Good...

    Packing food on the trail

I am planning to take some friends on a winter hike to Mt Willard and am looking for ideas on what type of birthday cake to bring for a surprise at the summit. Is there anything that packs particularly well? I've packed ice cream in on a few summer hikes, but I don't think this group would...

Getting towed near Mt. Tremont trailhead

Some friends of mine got their car towed while doing a day hike on Mt. Tremont last weekend. They said that they had to park on the side of the road because the parking area was not plowed. However, they pulled the car completely off the road and they saw no signs to indicate any parking...

Vandalism at 19 Mile Brook trailhead

I've heard about the vandalism at this trailhead and unfortunately saw it first hand yesterday. There was a car with the driver's window smashed, as well as glass on the ground in another part of the lot. Just a reminder to not leave anything of value in the car at any trailhead.

Everest Expedition Weblog with video podcast

If you go to www.mountainguides.com/everest06/everest06-updates, you can read about the IMG 2006 Everest South Side expedition, including Jim Gagne, who reached the summit just a few hours ago. Congratulations to Jim and best wishes for a safe trip down.

    Brain Tumors and me...and you

After having my second brain tumor removed back in 1994, I was determined it was not going to get the better of me. Six weeks after my surgery I climbed Mt. Jefferson and haven't stopped hiking since. Luckily, the tumors I had were "essentially benign". Unfortunately, my mom was diagnosed with...

    Advice on Washington needed

While I haven't done Washington in October, a group of us did Jefferson in early October several years ago. By the time we got to the summit, it was snowing, blowing, and freezing!(wind chill was definitely less than 30 degrees) Although we all got down safely, many lessons were learned: 1...

    Which VFTT most often seen?

Lafayette is my top peak... 27 times so far (but whose counting?) Whether I hike it with friends or solo, in good weather or bad, at a fast pace or slow...I can't say I've ever had a bad hike to this peak. :)

    success pond road question

A word of caution: We hiked Mahoosuc Notch on 7/30/05 and found the road/trailheads without a problem. However, upon finishing the hike and heading south toward Berlin, we found Success Pond Rd closed for a "rally", and ended up having to drive out the north end to Rt 26. Needless to say, it...

Mt Clay via Caps Ridge - 8/6/05

What a great trail, and a perfect day to be on it. When we first came upon your group, it was obvious that you weren't having any fun at all :) Lets hope the weather is as good for this coming weekend!

    Vermont 4000 footers

Does anyone have any information on the current status of the trails to Camel's Hump and Mansfield? I was hoping to head that way this weekend but heard that the trails might be closed due to mud season. Any information would be appreciated, thanks!
