What's next? :confused: Who knows... I am hiking with a very capable friend who is new to New England hiking, so I suppose a Presi traverse and Wildcat - Moriah traverse is in order. Will also probably run a few more marathons this fall. thx for the encouragement all. J

I always laughed at myself at the prospect of doing this hike. Two years ago I was fat & out of shape. Last year I decided to train for and run a half marathon. Done. Then a marathon. Done 2x What's next you ask? How about a Pemi loop hike! I'd been on all the peaks, multiple times...

Anyone have any issues with sleeping in your car / truck at some of the more popular trailheads (with the USFS or local police)? Hoping to get an early start on an upcoming hike. thx all

Wow, I must have passed you at some point... Yes, the wind was wicked on Adams & Madison, and lousy on Washington, but the Southerns were relatively calm. Not trying to burst your bubble, as I may have made the same decision had I been hiking alone. This was my 1st Presi traverse!!

Well, my original post references Appalacia, but my question was about trailheads in general.

Anyone know if the local police / forest service (whoever has local jurisdiction) objects to hikers sleeping in their cars at a trailhead? I am planning an early start on a hike and hope to sack out in the car at the Appalacia trailhead. I'd rtather not discover at 2am that I need to move on...

Flying to Co to bag a couple of 14ers. I would like to carry everything on the plane, so I got to wondering what might be prohibited. Aside from the obvious (stove fuel, etc.) does anyone know if hiking poles might be prohibited from carry ons? Any info would be appreciated. J
