Personal experiences with emergency locator devices

I'm an Inreach Satellite Communicator for SmartPhone "classic" user. It has no fancy display, no touchscreen, just a couple of buttons and lights. Owned it for 4 1/2 years (April 2012) Important features: 1) replaceable batteries. 2x AA size, can use Alkaline, NiMH, or Liithium. I always use...

Personal experiences with emergency locator devices

You need to add the original "DeLorme InReach". It is a different device than the SE or Explorer. You can't buy it any more, but there are a lot still in use.

    Hotel on Mt Washington??!!

I'm really confused about the proposed location. The original news reports referenced the Skyline Switch (which appears to have been located at about 5600'). I think the area you are referencing is the Waumbek passing track, which is much lower down the mountain. I can't find the Skyline Switch...

Interesting Meetup event on Mt Washington thsi weekend

They're still up. All it takes is the organizer logging in and pushing the "delete" button and it will go away. If they can't figure that out, not sure how they figured out how to create it in the first place.

    WMG Online

Make sure your DVR doesn't have default passwords for 'root' or 'admin'.... or you're part of the problem. (From what I've read, the current malware is memory-resident, so you should be able to reset the passwords, power-cycle, and it will be gone. I don't expect this situation to continue, I'm...

Which direction for a Wildcats, Carter Moriah two nighter?...

Note for anyone planning to camp in Carter Notch instead of staying in the Hut: Sometime between November 2015 and September 2016, the Forest Service "redefined" what "1/4 mile" is from the Carter Notch Hut. It *used* to be that the FPA sign was on the AT at the Wildcat Ridge/19 Mile Brook...

RIP - Moriah Brook Suspension Bridge

"appears"? It's *totally* inside the Pemi. It's also one of the few tentsites in the WMNF that uses tent pads rather then platforms. The only structures at the site which aren't made of natural materials (dirt & rock) is the privy, and the bear-boxes (which are not really "permanent")

    Trail maintenance etiquette

To answer the original question: If it sounds like "significant maintenance", then I'd have to classify it as uncool. That implies someone took tools out with them on the trail to do this maintenance, but couldn't be bothered to find and communicate with the official maintainer. Adopters get...

    Trail maintenance etiquette

I think the "tools" is a good guideline. Fine with me for people to pick up debris/blowdowns and heave them into the woods on the trail I have adopted. If they start trimming brush (loppers or saw), there's a right way and a wrong way to do it, I'd rather supervise. If done poorly, it can...
