Ermine vs. Squirrel, continued...
We had the same drama play out in front of our house, I've posted some photos on Flickr that my wife took, including some close-ups:

Neos Voyager Overshoes with Stabilicer Outsole?
Has anyone tried these? I can't tell if they'd be as secure; I suspect I'd be better with the traditional stabilicer coupled with my regular gaiters since the description reads "They easily fit over casual, dress and athletic shoes." that hiking...
Degree of sting from pack strap whippings?
There must also be a way to infer wind speed based upon how much or how little sting results from getting whipped by a loose pack strap or jacket draw cord. :D
Tripyramids with no fear of turning around
A small group is planning on hiking the Livermore/Scaur Ridge/Pine Bend/Mt. Trip./Livermore circuit tomorrow which they tell me avoids any significant water crossings and also the dangerous ledges. If anything looks too hairy I'll turn around and come...
mt. guyot is a stellar peak
I second Bryan on that - I hiked in from Zealand, spent the night at the Guyot shelter and retraced my steps heading back out. It was terrific and I was also impressed with Mt Guyot.
Cabot
I've attempted Cabot in the rain before (actually I think we were in the tail of hurricane Katrina) - it was me and Woody48 and another friend; we got soaked despite rain gear and didn't quite make it to the summit. The worst part for me was the drive, it is so far compared to the...

Lousy weather but great report!
Dave,
You only hike in the rain, right? Great report, I enjoyed reading it and I'm glad you were prepared with the extra layers! Hopefully your "pound the Presies" hike will be warmer and dryer.

A while back I remember WildThings in Conway, NH had a comparison demonstration and display which made the eVENT look like the clear winner. I've got no eVENT and like the other reply, only have XCR on my feet.
coffee keeps me going (pun intended)
I gave up coffee for a few years after it started giving me the shakes. Then I had kids and sleep deprivation began so back to coffee I went. Now I'm on multiple cups per day but no shakes - who knows. On hiking days I have a cup or two before and...
Seems like it's any plastic boot
I have Scarpa Invernos, wore the skin right off my left shin on Lafayette. After a long healing period (prolonged by wearing the new skin off on my second attempt to wear the damn things  ). Then HIKER ED told me to "just pull them on and tuck the laces...
So how was it?
Did you go? There's no recent posts in the trail conditions area. A friend and I are planning to hike it on 12/10 and I am wondering if there are blow down issues there like there are in so many other places.
Thanks!
