All the leaves are brown (Hope Not!)

Color update-it was beautiful this past weekend on RPR. Lots of deep reds towards the west, and many golds to the east and I looked up and saw blue (but i did not drink it). I'd guess that about fifty percent still had not changed though. Next weekend could be the prime weekend if its not...

All the leaves are brown (Hope Not!)

Sorry,..Couldn't resist the song lyrics. The time is right, what is the leaf change status in the High peaks? Planning on RPR this Sunday and hoping for some nice foliage. Maybe a couple more nice fall hikes before all the leafs are gone.

    Blake, Colvin, Nip, Dial/Gravestone Brook

Mountain Taxi Phone# is 962-2977. I think its a 518 area code. They are out of Westport, NY and are only like a year and half old. I definitely recommend them. They were on time, animal friendly and made every effort to give us the best value for our dough. I initially thought $52 was too...

    Blake, Colvin, Nip, Dial/Gravestone Brook

Rik, Mountain Taxi Service provided the ride. I have their business card someplace- I'll put the number up tonight. They charged us $52 and that included my wife, self, the two knuckleheads...I mean the labs and our gear. They used a van for the service. They said they'll go anywhere at any...

    Can a dog do Seymour

My nine year old black lab can still run circles around any human I've met in the peaks. She's got 38 peaks. Seymour should be no problem. I think some dogs might have challenges with some of the ledges and ladders on some peaks, but definitely not Seymour.

    Best dog breeds for hiking?

I've only had two dogs in my life. They are both black labs-the old lady (Marcy) is an American Lab. Jake is the youngster, and he is an English Lab. I don't know if this always holds true, but they both are super energetic-they can out last me. Second, the female has been our protector...

    Dixes / Dial / Colvin - Suggestions?

We have done the Dix Range as a day hike. We also did Blake, Colvin, Nippletop and Dial as a seperate overnight hike by placing a car on rt 73 by round pond, taking Mountaintaxi service (they took my wife, myself, our gear and our two dogs for $50) to Elk Lake. This required a bushwhack through...

    Blake, Colvin, Nip, Dial/Gravestone Brook

Initially, we may have since it was a very small brook. But as we descended,we eventually ran into the correct brook. I had been in correspondance with Joel from Adirondack Journeys, and he told me after, that due to Gravestone Brook, of the 229 trail recommendations he had made, only one was...

    Sawteeth-My 46th

You can't lose either way. We did it last week via the scenic trail and down Weld. I preferred it this way because you had many rest points while ascending due to the outstanding lookouts, and the descent and back to the lot was quite quick and easy only an hour or so down and and a little...

    Blake, Colvin, Nip, Dial/Gravestone Brook

The Ridge was interesting, but I'd avoid Gravestone Brook at all costs. We had no choice because of our dogs and AMR regulations. :(

    Blake, Colvin, Nip, Dial/Gravestone Brook

Blake, Colvin, Nippletop, Dial Peaks #37,38,39, 40 August 5,6, 2004 (Thursday, and Friday) What an excursion! We spotted our car on route 73 at the Round Pond trailhead and had a taxi service take us, our gear and our dogs to Elk Lake where we began the hike. The trail from Elk Lake to...
