    From the DEP parking outside Westkill Hamlet. Dry, no stream crossings, easy grade, no snow to speak of. Heart burn from eating wild leaks. Over to ND and out the ridge to the Fishermans Parking. An uneventful,enjoyable, different way to do these 2.

    From Barnum Rd, out Big Hlw. Snowshoes, with good crampons, don't go with out them. Much ice/blow down in lower Lockwood Gap.

    No damage from ice storm. Trail is very wet and icy to 3600', (stream needed a big jump,) above that, hard pack and heavy ice flows. Barebooted up, insteps down. Met 2 coming over from Cornell/Witt and they wished they had crampons for the traverse. No one else out. Very clear, cold and windy...

    Halcott 10/29

    Halcott 10/29 Vly 10/31 6" snow at base(rt 42) with lots of blow down. Over 2' at summit, no blowdown. Snow shoes a must at this time. Same conditions on Vly but 50 degrees Snowmoble tracks headed to Bearpen

    On a recent Catskill hike, I saw an apple tree, complete with apples, above 3500'. Does any one know of any other fruit trees, excluding wild cherries, up this high.
