" All state parks are open " ? This press release dated 5/28 seems odd . We drove by Devil's Tombstone on Friday and it was closed . We stayed at Colgate Lake where we talked at length with a DEC Ranger and he made no mention of any change in the parks closures . :confused: Dave

I was going to say that the top of that field would be a great spot to sit and take in the view , but then I thought about the almost certain ticks in the tall grass ... so I didn't type that . But I'll bet a lot of people have done just that . Good luck & get well ! Dave

We were up there this past Sunday and the Jersey Barrier was dragged down into the Northwest Cabin parking area , so they may be getting ready to block the road . We were in a hurry & I wasn't paying much attention to the road south of the parking lot , but it " appeared " to still be open...

I would think so. There's tent sites about a mile in and the cabin just below the summit of Alander that's open to the public , so I guess they'd expect you to park somewhere . For what it's worth , I've seen hunters complete with campers stay overnight in that lot before . Try calling ? Dave

I'd have to say Hale by the Firewarden's trail . It's never steep or rocky, and with the foliage peaking , now would be a great time to do it . Yes, I know it's not an " official " trail, but IMHO it should be . Dave

Chip's idea is a good one , but Weatherman makes it better by using the Osseo Trail rather than the boring Liberty Springs Tr. You could still drop down to the tentsite for an overnight , it's not far . Or...you could hike in on the Wilderness Tr. and camp off the Bondcliff Tr. . Then head...

Busy place indeed ! Mt. Washington's summit is the only place I've seen my dog uncomfortable . She's never been afraid of anything , but she wasn't too happy there . So....next hike up will be dogless :( Dave

Not part of any peak , but there's Giant's Thumb on the AT in Salisbury Ct. All by itself in the woods, it looks like something from Stonehenge or Easter Island .

I agree with Wardsgirl , as the little buggers always seem to find a way to get under my hat . Why there is anyone's guess .... Dave
