Hmm... that's weird, then. We turned up off of the CCC road exactly at the Maple Ridge Trail sign. Are you saying we then veered off of the Maple Ridge Trail and onto a different route somewhere further uphill?
Clear but frigid day walking along's Mansfield's ridgeline. Loop hike, start point Underhill State Park. Great snow conditions!

For those interested, here's the trip report of a late-September (2014) visit to the desert southwest (well, more specifically, Grand Canyon and Zion NPs). I'm calling this one the "checklist edition" because the plan was to cross off a number of outings that we'd been wanting to do over the...
Yes, Crypt Lake was on our list of potential outings. I'd definitely like to do it sometime.
The no-outlet lake sounds similar to the situation at Hidden Lake in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park in the Kananaskis region. Not surprising, I guess, given the soluble nature of the bedrock in...
Hi, All
I thought many might be interested in a trip report detailing a week-long (well, more like 9 days) trip spent exploring several trails / routes along the Continental Divide between Glacier National Park and Banff National Park, in early August of 2014. Only one of the outings ended up...
Images and TR of a nice day (Sat, Nov 16) in the Johns Brook Valley area, over Yard / Big Slide / The Brothers:

Mostly bare down low, 2-4 inches of soft snow up high. Not a lot of ice underfoot, except in a few isolated spots. Used microspikes only on steep east side of Big Slide Summit. Too little snow for snowshoes.

Hi, All
A report documenting a recent (last month's) trip to southern Utah is available for viewing. It was another of the many I've done over the years in southern Utah, but this was the first time we were kicked out of a park! I therefore title this report "Permits and Politics"...
For those interested, here's my trip report of a wonderful day climbing the winter Great Gully Route in King Ravine (and ultimately to Mt Adams). There was still a healthy amount of snow all the way from the bottom of the Gully to the top, allowing us to do part of what we came for - practice...
Hello. Last weekend we did a great three-peak, two-day outing to both the Adirondacks and NH. Two little peaks and one big one: Catamount and Snow in the Adirondacks, and a great winter-conditions climb of Moosilauke a day later. All three trip reports available for perusal here...
Today we did what turned out to be a quite easy but somewhat blustery climb of Hurricane (in the Adirondacks) via the northern approach. I've never climbed Hurricane via that way. A nice and straightforward alternative to the more common route. Trail conditions were a couple of inches of...
A warm and calm but rather snowy and cloudy day climbing the Webster Cliff Trail to Mt Jackson. Lots of trailbreaking, and it took us a very long 11 hours to complete the outing. Trip Report below:

P.S. Found a single undamaged...
