The Nor' Easter Was Bad !!!!!

Hi All, Have not been on here in a while but thought I pass on a picture of my kayaks after the Nor' Easter. No they are not covered by insurance and yes they are the expensive fiberglass ones. If anyone knows of a good deal on two used fiberglass or possibly even plastic (grimace) boats please...

    Winter gear list critique

A couple of things I would add.. I see some potentially dangerous omissions namely a bivy sac, a piece of insulating foam pad a metal mug (to heat water in directly) and a light weight stove. If you should get hurt and need to wait for rescue the snow is very cold to sit in! I use a 3/4...

    Where to sell gear..

Hi All, I'm wondering where you guys buy / sell used gear. Being a gear head I have tons of nice gear and some of it goes un-used. Where does a gear head sell gear to like minded individuals other and e-scam/e-bay. Is there an outdoor site that has a classified section for used gear? Why has...

    Loons and Butterflies...Wildlife Waterside Stories..??

Wildlife The butterflies went through Casco Bay about two weeks ago. My wife and I were out sailing and a few landed on the luff of the main sail to rest a while. As for wild life we actually have a Bald Eagle, about 4 Osprey, a few Great Blue Herons, some Egrets, numerous Sea Ducks and lots of...

    Drysuits

Jay I think you did not understand me.. I was saying that I have a Gore-Tex suit but if I had to do it again I would not spend the money on Gore-Tex. It does not work and it's a waste of money. Buy a waterproof non-breathable!

    MITA and publicity

I always try and protect private islands.. By not mentioning them by name in my photo gallery or in posts. The folks have been kind enough to let us use them we don't need to advertise the use. I have access to a number of islands owned by friends along the Maine coast, and they don not allow...

    Drysuits

Palm makes nice gear.. But it's usually not Gore-Tex so it's less money. My dry suit is Gore-Tex and it still does not breathe very well. I'd say don't waste your money on a Gore-Tex suit! If I had to do it over again I just go for the non-breathable version seeing as my Gore-Tex is a sweat box...

    Getting to know you...

I used to live in Harpswell... almost directly across from the Goslings. We liked it there and had a mooring in front of our home but the commute up 123 and then down to Portland in the winter was killing my wife. Unfortunately our boat came out of the water today because I have numerous...

For Sale: P&H Orion sea kayak

The Orion is a... very nice paddling boat! I have paddled a few over the years and it's a nice rough weather boat & has very good initial and secondary stability. My only complaint is that it's perhaps a little high on volume when not loaded with gear and can really get a little squirly in a...

    MITA question

Hi All, Hi All, I have been mostly a lurker of the VFTT and just today discovered the Kayaking forum. I've been a member of MITA since 1990 and have guidebooks going back to 1994. I can't recall if they even had them before that? Perhaps they did though and I can't seem to find them. It's an...

    Telemark Ski Gear Suggestions

Tele Skis... Are really just re-badged intermediate all mountain skis. My friend is the Atomic "Alpine" rep out in Seattle and a long time tele skier. He always recommends buying a last years pair of intermidiate skis at a ski and skate sale ($35.00 - $100.00) and having a shop remove the...
