    Your favorite photos, 2006

I have no experience with this product, but it looks neat and too good to be true, so it's probably useless, right? Looks like the tripod base might be a little flimsy, and with a large camera it would be pretty top heavy, but who wants to lug all that weight anyway? 30 oz.....I have no idea...

    Dehydrating eggs?

those last two posts made lunch seem inadequate.... I think I’ve been cooking with Pete’s 30 year old powdered eggs….it sounds like I might have been measuring incorrectly; Nessmunk, care to share your powdered scrambled egg recipe?

    Dehydrating eggs?

gross and nasty having eaten re-hydrated dehydrated eggs (powdered eggs actually, I’m assuming that they are one in the same), you don't want to eat them......bring lots of cheese to make them edible. Even with tons of cheese they still taste like sawdust! They are great to thicken a soup or...

    coffee

beer for breakfast; there is just no replacement. I have found the cowboy coffee method to be good for larger groups of caffeine freaks. Boil water, add coffee (1 heaping tbsp/cup of water and one extra at the end for good measure), let sit for 5 minutes or so, and in addition to banging the...

What do you carry for emergencies?

In addition to your list, I carry a few benadryl caplets and some pain killers (generic advil), probably included in your first aid kit. A spare set of batteries for one of my headlamps.

this will kill the bacteria and any odor http://shop.piwine.com/shopsite/prwc/product92.html I like my Camelbak and have had no problems with it (I've had it for 2+ years). Though I have not had any issue with my Platypus it looks to be seriously lacking in the strength and durability...

    Displaying trails on Google Earth?

it's not google but NASA has a great google-earth-like-program called World Wind that allows you to switch between Orthophoto and topo maps. I haven't found a way to make them look like the "hybrid" feature of Google maps (topo over a toned down orthophoto). NASA World Wind download

Midstate Trail in a 3 Day Weekend

Dugan makes a great point...you had mentioned running some of the miles so I'd assume that you'd be bringing trail running shoes, but if not I'd suggest them. I did a stretch from the route 2 crossing south to Rutland. If memory serves me, the last leg between Princeton and Rutland was...

    Mt. Mansfield, VT

underwood, underwater, underwear....wait! Underhill! Yes, Underhill State Park.....it was [apparently] a long day yesterday! Can anyone comment on the terrain in the area? Not that I rate anywhere near the level of hiker that most on VFTT are, I do manage to get out a bit more than the folks...

Midstate Trail in a 3 Day Weekend

watch it on the northern end (ashburnham, I think). there was a section that has restricted access due to a change in land ownership and the new owners we "having trouble" with the hikers going through there. Apparently you can write the current owner and get a "pass" to hike on their land...
