    I need a bug report

Mid June in Rangeley, you can count on copious bugs. Mostly black flies but some deerflies, skeeters, and no-see-ums will probably be out by then. I was up there on Memorial Day weekend and the black flies were starting to get going a little. Count on bugs and hope for windy weather.

I will always think of it as Crispo Peak. Named after the guy who gave me the list and caused years of misspent adulthood.

    Musings about the Highland center

I have analyzed the situation based on reading the posts on this thread. My conclusion is that the operators of the Highland Center decided that giving out free stuff to hikers is not a good business model.

Of all the things I’ve lost in life, I miss my mind the most!

At least you bagged the peak, which is the most important thing. I own a trekking pole that is on the Beaudry Road somewhere near Salmon and Kent Mountains (Last Fall) . I also own an altimeter watch that is on the ground somewhere near the top of Mount Deception (Summer 2004). And I have a...

    Catskills Winter Peaks

Is there any talk of the Blackhead Range Traverse? If so I'm interested. I'm fairly low maintenance in a group and I have a car (I might have to clean it out a little). Edit: Clarification: This weekend (Jan 24 or 25)

    Snowshoe hikes in Stowe, VT??

Stowe Pinnacle is a high bang for the buck hike near Stowe. It's a popular trail that goes to a prominent rock outcrop on the Worcester Range. It's only about 3 miles round trip so it may not qualify as a 1/2 day hike depending on your capability. It's listed in the Day Hikers Guide to Vermont.

    Graham - 1/17/9

Hi Tom. It was good to meet you guys. Thanks for validating my whining about the overhanging trees. It really was a beautiful day out there. Lots of fluffy snow and "thermal management" was not a big problem. (Not much thermal to manage)

    Catskills Winter Peaks

FWIW (INWM) I'm going to hike in the Catskills Saturday the 17th and Sunday the 18th. I'm not sure what I'm going to hike yet, I'm pretty far behind on my Catskill peakbagging so I am open to anything.

    Baxter Conditions? (Katahdin & Doubletop)

I was up there last weekend (14,15) on other business, but I know that they were saying all trails were open except the Saddle Trail. There was no snow on the Travelers or The Owl (3700 feet max). From the Travelers you could see fairly large snow patches remaining on Katahdin. Edit: I should...

1 billion dollar development plans for the Mt. Washington Hotel at Bretton Woods

Just checking in to let everyone know that I have no opinion on this issue. I visit often but I don't live there. I think the locals can do a fine job of handling the issue as they see fit. I don't think it is any of my business.
