    NH 4,000 Footers - Complete at last - after ~ 20 years!!

Well - I have NO explanation for why I did not post this right after we did it, but back on September 11th and 12th, my wife Rachel and I completed the 48 by peaking North Twin, and then Carragain. We're able to get to the Whites between 0 and 2 times a year, and so it has taken us over 20...

Mt. Isolation via Rocky Branch Trail - 10-26-2013

I'm a little late in posting this, but want to just the same. We hiked LAST Saturday, October 26th and started just before 8am from the Rocky Branch Trailhead Parking Lot on Rt. 16. It was cloudy and in the lower 40's and a great day to hike. Just about an hour in - after gaining a little...

Request for Hike Suggestions in the Londonderry, VT area

Thanks again for the suggestions !! We ended up going to Griffith Lake on Saturday, amidst 40 MPH winds and Snow squalls !! The snow was quite deep on the ridge and we were breaking the trail so we decided against adding Baker Peak. On Sunday, we did the 12 mile loop to Stratton Mountain and...

LOOP: Stratton Mountain to Stratton Pond

Trail from Kelly Stand Rd to the top of Stratton Mountain was packed out and we barebooted it without troubles. DEEP snow at the peak, but packed and easily traversed. From the peak down to the pond - much of the same and no need to Snow Shoes or any traction. The Stratton Pond trail would...

    Lake Trail to Lake Griffith

1/2 inch of snow at the trailhead increased to 6" - 8" of fresh powder over a hard packed base as we hit the ridge. Barebooted the whole way although Snow Shoes would have been nice higher up since the trail was not broken. Lite traction recommended but not required.

Request for Hike Suggestions in the Londonderry, VT area

This looks like a real nice hike - and that a pseudo loop can be made by stopping at Griffith Lake. http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/forests/greenmountain/htm/greenmountain/links/recreation/hiking/docs/south_pdf/griffith_lake_baker_peak_via_the_lake_trail.pdf THANKS

Request for Hike Suggestions in the Londonderry, VT area

Hello fellow hikers !! We're planning to spend most of Saturday and most of Sunday in the Londonderry, VT area and are looking for some "good" hikes to do. By "good" we mean: * not too short: we like to be out 3-6 hours at a whack * interesting things to see along the way (vista's...

    Owl's Head - 11/21/09

My wife and I, and our hiking buddy "Luchia" made the Lincoln Woods parking lot at about 7:15am. We head out quickly and made Black Pond at about 8:30. We set 345° on the compass, and about 25 minutes later we were sitting pretty on the Lincoln Brook Trail - having avoided what would become...

    Owl's Head - 11/21/09

Lincoln Woods Tr. - some puddles, but all easily avoided. Black Pond Tr. - squishy - but no problem. Black Pond Bushwhack - the driest part of our entire day !! Lincoln Brook Tr. (the portion WEST and NORTH of the Southern-most "dip" in the trail) - quite wet in spots and we needed to go off...

    Owls Head Question

I would stick to your plan. I think that after bagging three peaks on day 1, you'll appreciate the long, flat walk out after hitting OH. A while back my wife and started Day 1 at 1:00 in the afternoon and took the Mt. Garfield Trail up and stayed at the Hut, hitting Galehead after supper. On...

    dog access question

Our 4 year old Yellow Lab had no trouble doing this last November. There was little snow, but ice here and there. Even so - she blasted up and down the trail and, in typical hiking-dog fashion, loved every minute of it. For an "agile mountain dog", should be no trouble.

    3 North Twin Trail Questions

Changing Plans based on this great info Nartreb, Based on: 1. The additional mileage we'd have to put on to get North Twin (by virtue of Haystack Road being gated) and, 2. The fact we need to be on the road back to Ludlow, MA at Noon on Sunday and, 3. Our plans for tomorrow (Saturday) to...
