Going to do a very short hike up the east side of Halcot in the next few weeks and don't really remember where I parked when I did it years ago. Pretty sure I parked just off Rt42. That sound about right?
Any info on parking greatly appreciated.
Thx.
Chris
Am planning on hiking Wittenberg and then on to Cornell via trail and then bushwhacking over to Friday/Balsam Cap.
Was wondering if anyone has done this before and can inform what the bushwhacking is like once I drop off the west side of Cornell a bit and then head south around the "Dink"(?)...
Hi All,
Am planning on hiking Big Slide soon (from the Garden via the Brothers and maybe Slide Mt. Brook on return) and was wondering if anyone has done this with their dog. Kinda a new dog owner, have hiked plenty with him on Long Island but not yet in High Peaks of Cats or Daks.
Would it...
Hi All...just looking for a foliage report for the Adirondacks and White Mountain Regions.
Leaves must be starting to change, right?
Peak colors before September out you think?
Thanks.

Recently noticed on a map that there are a few campsites on the west end of Forked Lake. Anyone ever been to these sites? Might be looking for them after sunset so any details about their location, condition, landmarks, etc...would be great. Thanks.
Anyone aware of water/ice conditions on the big lakes of the Adirondacks? Long Lake, Lows Lake, Tupper Lake, The Saranacs, Forked...
They still iced over?
Thanks.
Never used one and not sure yet if I'm gonna even buy one.
But considering that I like to listen to music from my ipod at night around a fire, I need a way to keep it powered up for three or four days.
Anyone have experience with solar panels?
Looked briefly online and saw an 'Instpark 4S.'...
Recently returned from Long Lake in the Adirondacks. If anyone is interested in paddling in the very near future in the same area...water levels are dropping but are still about 3 feet above normal for this time of year. Over the course of the week there, the water level dropped a little more...
Looking to head in this direction next week.
Wondering if anyone has been to these peaks lately (or any in the vicinity) and can comment on trail and snow conditions.
Snowshoes yet? What about crampons?
Thanks.
Chris
Catskill Conditions and the Batavia Kill
Back in February the conditions in the Catskills were icy. I know February wasn't that long ago but the temperatures in Hunter next week are supposed to be up in the 50s. Looking to do the Blackhead Range in two weeks.
Have things changed at all...
Anyone use this rappelling method to get through some of the steeper, down-hill, icier sections in the mountains this winter?
With good rope, crampons and a helmet, it sounds do-able.
Anyone ever bushwack Sugarloaf from the North, Northeast?
Basically straight into the woods at the end of the Roaring Kill Trail.
Looking to avoid Mink Hollow and Pecoy Notch.
Hear the Devil's Path is quite icy. I know it's all icy but at least this bushwack seems to be along less-steep grades...
Hey,
Will be looking for some good food (foremost) and possibly a good pint in the Malta/Cambridge/Saratoga area in April...weekend of the Tour of the Battenkill.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Preferences:
1 - German/Swiss (am I pushing my luck here?)
2 - Good Burgers/American Pub fare
3 -...
Howdie,
I've been down 421 before (from Route 30) heading towards the Bog River and from what I remember, it was a dirt road soon after you turn off of Route 30 but I have never traveled the full length of 421 between Routes 3 and 30.
My question is...is it all dirt?
I'm looking to put in a...
OK...so if you had an opportunity to paddle anywhere in the world, where would it be? What would be the ideal trip for you and why?
Basically...where and why?
I'll start it off...
Ummm...it wouldn't be anywhere in Africa or Europe. We're talking the ultimate trip here...so South America...
