    Butt sledding haters?

Why do some hikers consider what they do to be the only serious pursuit that should be done on trails? Is it not, in and of itself, just a mere act of goofing off. I been getting some public hate and attempts at shaming for sledding down the trails in the Whites. It was just blamed for making...

The Bonds and Owl's Head bushwacking?

I am looking into trying the Bonds, and then Owl's Head, as possible day hikes. The mileage seems pretty crazy. Are there any suggested bushwacks that are recommended to tackle these hidden "Jewels of the Whites"? I would rather do 1 mile of bushwacking versus 2 miles of trail.

Huts and campsites, what do they cost

I have read a bunch on where the hikes are located, if there is a reservation/first come first served policy, water availability, and so on. But one thing that is never talked about is the cost. Are all the fees the same at the AMC Huts, and the campsites in the Whites, what are those fees?

    Tenting near the Bonds

I am trying to put a plan together for doing the Bonds as a two day hike. My question is what to do if the campsites are full. I read that it is okay to camp off of the Bondcliff trail. Some helpful info would be great on this. The huts are out of my price range and I was hoping for a more back...

is a WMNF parking pass needed on the Kancamangus?

Thanks TJsName, I didn't realize it was good for 12 months from the month it is purchased, I was cheaping out and thinking it was for just the calendar year. guess I should get one then.

is a WMNF parking pass needed on the Kancamangus?

Doing the Hancocks in the morning, wondering if I need a parking pass for the Kancamangus Highway? I know I should have gotten a season pass, but my hiking year is coming to a close with just a few hikes left for the season.

Help, I am trying to do the Terrifying Twenty-five

I am trying to do the Terrifying Twenty-five, but being a newbie to hiking in the Whites, I am having problems with where some of the trails are located. The descriptions I have read are rather vague, and would like to know more, like what mountains the trails are located on, what parts of said...

Looking for difficult trails in the Whites

The Terrifying Twenty-five is awesome. Muchly appreciated, a new list to go after once my NH 4's are done.

Looking for difficult trails in the Whites

Thanks to all, can't wait to try them on my summits of undone peaks, and for the peaks I have done I will retry with the trails I have yet to take.

Looking for difficult trails in the Whites

I recently did the Flume Slide Trail up to Mount Flume. I loved the hard climb and mostly the peace and solitude of the less travelled trail. What are some of the harder trails in the Whites one can take in peakbagging the 4000's, without rock climbing gear being needed?

When does a memorial become trash in a backcountry setting?

Once it is left I think it is up to the eyes beholding it as to whether or not it is trash. I found a bunch of "memorials" to the hard candy some thoughtful hiker was leaving on the Fishin' Jimmy Trail, I picked them up and brought them home because they didn't look like they were in the "right"...
