Date of Hike: 3-18-14
Trail Conditions: Packed trail the entire way to the summit. Where skiers haven't been down the trail is a nice snowshoe track. Where they have been down the trail is packed, but could be smooth/slick for those without traction. Plenty of blazes where the hiking trail and ski trail cross and coincide
Special Equipment Required: I used snowshoes the entire hike for the heel lifts and extra traction along the ski trail area. Another hiker got by fine with hilsounds on the way up without postholing at all. Some ice under thin layer of snow in the ski trail area
Comments: Trail was in great shape and the weather was awesome. Nice and clear with low winds. Many skiers have been going down parts of the trail, but it isn't getting messed up from them. They are helping pack it down at least. Rim Trail at the summit has been mostly used to the right where it is well packed. To the left is lightly used and can be quite choppy. In the tight trees, some small branches are head level, but that's due to the deep snow.
