Absolutely great 4 day weekend up in the ‘Playground’! We hated to come home this morning, but we got in 3 good hikes, the last one being Mount Kearsarge North. This was #10 of 10 on the Views and Brews list for us and has been on the ‘To Do’ list for quite some time. We met up with friends who needed it also, so 4 adults and 3 K9’s met at the trailhead.
The parking lot at Kearsarge North will only hold about 8-10 cars, so parking on the side of street must be the norm. The neighbor across the street does have signs up stating not to park on the opposite side of the street. The trailhead is at the right side of the parking lot and it starts off as just an easy walk through the woods. The trail is blazed in yellow; some of the blazes further up could use a fresh coat of paint. Other than that the trail was in good shape all the way to the tower. When the UP starts, it’s not bad and you will get a couple of almost levels area, before it goes up again. Once the trail turns to slab you will come across boulders and exposed roots. For the most part the trail itself is wide and was dry. There was a small section where it was a little wet, but manageable. Before the summit there is a long area of incline that was a boulder walk. Overall the trail was not a tough hike in our opinion.
Once on the summit the views are great, if the day is clear. Lol The fire tower has just had some recent repair work done to it. There were a couple of young ladies from the Forest Service, at the summit, getting all the old wood ready to be picked up by helicopter. If you are available on Wednesday and are interested, that is the day the helicopter is currently scheduled to come get the wood. The fire tower it open 24/7 for everyone’s viewing pleasure.
The summit was not as crowded as we expected it to be. We spent about 45 minutes at the top, eating lunch and enjoying the views. We figured that everyone got an early start home. Lost and Found…we lost Ms. Brandi’s red leash, it has since been replaced so if anyone finds it and needs one, help yourself. It was the second time it was dropped and lost this weekend so apparently it was meant to be. :D
We did post a video of our day’s adventure if anyone is interested in seeing the trail condition and the hike…
