Sorry, it's only plowed 20 yds. ...
Q-wave Quinlan (serious as a heart attack) and I headed up to Redington yesterday, 1/19. Unbelievably, this route was snowmobiled to the summit! Take a right turn at the pond, the next logging road on the right, then Left nearly at the ridgetop. The next junction is confusing, but continue straight ahead, staying on the narrow (3-4" wide track).
Great snow conditions for skiing... on the descent we were able to ski the last 8 miles. We tried skiing the narrow track just below the summit by sitting on our poles as a brake, but soon returned to walking after I ended up in the thick trail-side spruce. Once back on the wider logging road, the skiing was fantastic.
Unfortunately, no pictures will be posted because of the ugliness of this trip's participants. However, the vistas were stunning... Sugarloaf's west-facing ravine filled with blue ice (a new Ice Age??), Spaulding, the rock-ribbed summit of Abraham. On the descent, the Bigelow Range was ever present... Avery, West Peak, the Horns, peak above Horns Pond and Cranberry... another unbelievably spectacular day in the mountains!
