I'm contemplating a Dix range traverse with one or two friends either April 23-24 or alternatively 2-3 May. For planning purposes I'm trying to get a rough read on what snow conditions might be like this year on those dates (I'll try to get specifics closer to the time). I'm wondering if we'll make better time on the earlier date with snowshoes & crampons, or if we are in for a mudbath come what may. All advice appreciated. Current conditions reports would also be helpful.
