    Sleeping bag with pad

Thanks for all the advice. I ended up buying a Marmot Never Winter 30 degree bag with four loops sewn into the sides (probably intended as a way to hang the bag). I used the loops to rig some straps from the loop on one side, then under the pad and attached to the loop on the other side. It...

    Sleeping bag with pad

It’s a long story but I’m in the market for a 30 - 40 degree sleeping bag. Also, I’m tired of rolling off of my sleeping pad so I thought I’d investigate bags with a sleeve for a pad or some sort of method for attaching the pad. Any ideas? I’ve looked at Big Agnes but I haven’t found any others.

    Parking for Liberty Springs

Can someone refresh my memory please? Where is the closest parking for Liberty Springs trail and tent site? I recall parking at the Lafayette Campground once but we were finishing at the Old Bridle Path. Maybe the Basin or Flume Visitor Center is the closest. Thanks.

Thanks for posting this trip report. Being relatively new to SW New Hampshire, I wasn't aware of this series of trails. Now I have a new area to explore.

    Spider ID?

No, it seemed to be all black. It's interesting that the third set of legs (from the front) go straight out from the body and it didn't have a bulbous body. The closest resemblance I've found is simply "Black Spider"

    Spider ID?

After raising three girls, I was used to hearing "Eeeek, Daddy come and kill the spider!" This time it was my wife who said, "Duane, you might want to take a look at this spider." Since she isn't prone to exaggeration, I took a look very quickly. I've attached two pictures of the spider. The...

    Bird and tree reference books

I seem to be hiking slower these days. I'm sure that it's not age, it must be a change in gravitational pull or global warming. I'm paying greater attention to my surroundings, particularly birds and trees. Can anyone recommend guides that I can carry with me to help justify increasingly...

    Northern PA Backpacking

I did the West Rim Trail, near Wellsboro several years ago and it was pretty spectacular. The trail skirts the so-called PA Grand Canyon and has some amazing views. I had tried it once in the spring but the bugs were ridiculous. It's not a loop trail but Pine Creek Outfitters can provide some...
