Looking for a good hiking solar panel

IIRC, the solar panels aren't that light either. I don't know if it would really be a huge advantage in weight over the battery pack. My 10,000 mAh pack (Anker) doesn't weigh all that much.

Good boot selection N. of Boston?

Here is the followup on my boot purchase from Shoebuy.com... Montrail Torre GTX 12.5W: I really thought these were going to be the ones that fit me the best, but they turned out to have too much volume in the forefoot. It was cavernous in there and it let my foot slide around too much...

Possible for Older hiker to do the Bonds??

Myself and a few friends are thinking about doing the "Three Bonds in a Day" and I came across your Bonds page while I was researching the hike earlier this week. Great job with the Bonds page, as well as the rest of the site!

Good boot selection N. of Boston?

Well, the boots are starting to trickle in. They're coming from all over the country. One pair, which came out of Boston, has already arrived. Two more have shipped out of CA and UT, should be here Thursday. Two more left to ship. This is exciting! :)

Good boot selection N. of Boston?

No, they don't really have a great return policy as far as used items. You can't wear them if you want to return them. I guess if you are worried about that you might not want to go that route. Personally, I'm just trying to find a boot that fits me, period. I'm not even to the point of...

Good boot selection N. of Boston?

Boot Search Update!!!! (I know you're all excited ;) ) So this past weekend I went to the Reading REI to check out the boots. Lo and behold, they had NO wide boots in stock in my size. Wonderful. Since my feet aren't extremely wide I decided to try on a few of the regular width boots...

    /stove +/jetboil +/opinions

I agree that it's well engineered and very easy to use and carry. The coffee press feature is pretty slick, definitely a nice addition. I really like my Press-Bot Nalgene coffee press, though. It's also very well designed.

Another Big Sale at EMS - Moved from trips & events

I've only seen the extra $20 off in the e-mail I got from EMS. I think you have to be signed up for their email list to get that one. It says you have to print it up and bring it to the store to get the deal (of course, you just need the code to get the deal on the website).

Good boot selection N. of Boston?

Thanks, I'll definitely make that trip. I went to the Salem EMS and the selection wasn't great. They had Montrail Torres and EMS Summits in wide sizes but neither in 12W. :( The Montrail Torre 13W felt pretty good, but they were just too long.

    /stove +/jetboil +/opinions

The Jetboil is a really nice stove IMO. It's not for direct cooking, but for boiling water and making hot drinks it's great. Very easy to use and easy to pack. I think it's kind of weird that someone mentioned that it packs large. I don't see how you could pack a stove, pot and fuel...

A Few Q's on Down Sleeping Bags

I can't wait until I can justify buying a Western Mountaineering bag. :D

A Few Q's on Down Sleeping Bags

Ohhhh, it's a pound less than your other bags. I thought you were saying it weighs 1 pound total. :o

Good boot selection N. of Boston?

Width is my concern... I typically wear a 12-13 4E sized shoe. My current pair of boots is a size 13 D, although they fit pretty well they could be a little wider. Needless to say, I hate buying shoes. I don't even bother looking at anything besides New Balance any more. I did notice that...

Good boot selection N. of Boston?

Well, that's a little far north of Boston for me. :o I'm talking like less than an hour north of Boston. Maybe as far north as Manchester. I'm probably not going to be up towards Conway for a little while. The Limmers are tempting though, just a bit out of my price range. Maybe next time...

Good boot selection N. of Boston?

After slip sliding down the slabs on South Baldface last weekend I've realized I need some new boots. Does anyone know of a place north of Boston that has a pretty good selection in stock? I'm closest to the EMS in Salem and the Reading REI, so I'll check those out. Is there anywhere else I...
