Does anybody hike in Vibram Five Fingers

If so what kind do you use? I have the KSOs and they're just too thin to protect you from the rocks and nastiness of Adirondack Trails. They are very comfortable. So I was wondering if there was a more trail worthy Five Fingers thats good for the Herd Paths up there. Mike

    Iroquois to Marshall

Thanks!! I remember a steep section on the Iroquois side when I was hiking through the pass trail. That must be where the cliff is. That helps alot thanks!! Its good knowing the Marshall herd path is opposite the Iroquois one.

    Iroquois to Marshall

Although I've been to both of these moutains many times I've never gone down to the pass from Iroquois or up from there to Marshall. I did go to Sheperds tooth once and I've been through the pass on the trail but I don't remember seeing any herd paths that go up to Iroquois. I did see the herd...

    purchasing Kayak

Hurricane Tracer is very nice but get as lite as you can afford I have a 14 foot Perception Carolina myself and its awesome. The problem is its a tad heavy and with the ADKs rough Portages I would advise you to get as light a boat as you can afford. The Hurricane Kayaks are very nice. I'm in...

Any nice hikes in the Tug Hill area?

I have a friend who is anxious to use his snowshoes but since Tugg Hill seems to be the only place with actual snow he wants to head there to try them out. I've done a lot XC skiing in that area but I don't know of any hiking trails. I hear theres one called Gleasans Falls? Any ideas out...

    New Slide on Colden

First of all I'd like to express how sad I am about the BU student who died up there. Its such a sad thing. We all know how easy it is for things to happen in the mountains. I'm also from Binghamton. Although I didn't know him the fact he loved the mountains speaks volumes. Such a terrible...

    Mountain Suggestions for Challenged Hikers

I took a friend of mine up Mount Jo this past Friday. Hes physically challenged and walks on crutches. He made it up and down Mt Jo despite this, but it took everything he had to do it. Mt Jo is extremely rocky. I guess I didn't realize how bad since I only hiked it in winter. He loved it...

    Alcohol Stove

Thanks for the Info!! Sweet I'm going to make one of those cat food stoves. Nothing to loose. You know I'm guessing the alcohol stove probably works better in winter. In order to use my jetboil I have to sleep with the cannister. Thanks Mike

    Alcohol Stove

I saw some thru hikers using an alocohol stove recently. It didn't boil fast but I was impressed by how little fuel it used and how small it was. Does anybody have any experience with these. What kind of alcohol does it use and where can you buy the fuel. Also is there an alcohol stove that...

Giant Mountain 12/28/09 via Zander Scott

Near perfect conditions for snowshoeing all the way with hard packed snow and some deeper drifts near the summit. Summit trees are encased in huge ice that was totally awesome. The Zander Scott trail was beautiful as always.

Looking for B.Foot on Slide, Cornell and Wittenburg

Didn't see any bigfoots. Went from Slide to Wittenburgh and then back again. Not a Bigfoot to seen anywhere. Just a bunch of hairless bigfeet types but with really little feet. Possibly a relative. Little ice in the morning but nothing too bad. Great day to be hiking

A Special Thanks to Claudia (Hike Leader Extraordinaire!)

I just wanted to take a moment to thank Claudia of the Albany ADK for helping me to get the Winter 46 this year. I had some really tough peaks to do and wouldn't have been able to get it done without her leadership! She has a combination of drive and outdoor skills that I truely envy, along...
